MotherToBaby is the public information service of the Organization of Teratology Information Specialists (OTIS), a professional scientific organization composed of experts engaged in assessing and evaluating risks to pregnancy and breastfeeding outcomes from medications and other exposures. This site is dedicated to providing evidence-based information to parents, health care professionals, and the general public about medications and other exposures during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

North American Society for Psychosocial Obstetrics and Gynecology (NASPOG)

The aim of the Society is to foster scholarly scientific and clinical study of the biopsychosocial aspects of obstetric and gynecologic medicine. The aim is broadly defined to include the psychological, psychophysiological, public health, socio-cultural, ethical and other aspects of such functioning and behavior.

Project TEACH – New York State, Maternal Mental Health Initiative

New York State maternal mental health providers can schedule a consultation with expert psychiatrists in maternal mental health through an open conference line. The open conference line is available twice weekly on Tuesdays from 5 to 6 PM and Thursdays from 1 to 2 PM.

Treating for Two

Treating for Two is a program launched by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Treating for Two aims to improve the health of women and babies by working to identify the safest treatment options for the management of common conditions before and during pregnancy.

International Association For Premenstrual Disorders (IAPMD)

The International Association for Premenstrual Disorders advocates for the prevention, treatment, and research of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) and premenstrual exacerbation of underlying disorders (PME). This site offers information on PMDD and resources for professionals managing PMDD cases.

Massachusetts Child Psychiatry Access Project (MCPAP) for Moms

MCPAP for Moms provides real-time, perinatal psychiatric consultation and care coordination for obstetric, pediatric, primary care and psychiatric providers to effectively prevent, identify, and manage depression and other mental health concerns in pregnant and postpartum women. The North American Menopause Society (NAMS) is a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the health and quality of life of all women during midlife and beyond through an understanding of menopause and healthy aging. Their website offers informational videos and maintains listings of local providers.

Postpartum Support International

PSI is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote awareness, prevention and treatment of mental health issues related to childbearing in every country worldwide.

1.800.944.4PPD (4773) – PSI’s toll-free Patient HelpLine serves over 1,000 callers a month and is staffed by a volunteer team of PSI trained responders who rapidly refer callers to appropriate local resources, including emergency services. The Patient HelpLine also offers Spanish-language support – press 1 for Spanish.

PSI Perinatal Psychiatric Consult Line: The consultation line is available for medical professionals who have questions about the mental health care related to pregnant and postpartum patients and pre-conception planning. The Perinatal Psychiatric Consult Line is staffed by reproductive psychiatrists who are members of PSI and specialists in the treatment of perinatal mental health disorders. American Academy of Family Physicians

The AAFP offers practice guidelines and recommendations for depression screening in the perinatal patient population.

Furthermore, the AAFP supports the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) clinical preventive service recommendation on preventative interventions for perinatal depression.

Council on Patient Safety in Women’s Health Care: Maternal Mental Health Safety Bundle

The National Council on Patient Safety in Women’s Health Care created the Maternal Mental Health Safety Bundle and a list of resources for patients and providers.

Massachusetts Health Promotion Clearinghouse

Through this site maintained by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, one can order patient education brochures on topics related to health during pregnancy and parenting issues.

MCPAP for Moms Toolkit

The MCPAP for Moms toolkit was created to assist front-line perinatal care providers in the prevention, identification and treatment of depression and other mental health concerns in pregnant and postpartum women. There is also a toolkit specifically for pediatric providers.

Royal College of General Practitioners

The Perinatal Mental Health Toolkit provides a set of relevant tools to assist members of the primary care team to deliver the highest quality care to women with mental health problems in the perinatal period. As well as offering a diverse collection of resources, the Perinatal Mental Health Toolkit gives details of additional learning for individual practitioners as well as resources specifically aimed at women and their families. (Many of these resources are specific to the United Kingdom.)
