Neurosteroids, similar to brexanolone, are being considered for the treatment of PMDD.  

 

Comorbid Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder and Bipolar Disorder: A Review.

Females with PMDD and comorbid bipolar disorder have a more complex course of illness, including increased psychiatric comorbidities, earlier onset of BD, and greater number of mood episodes. Importantly, there may be a link between puberty and the onset of BD in females with comorbid PMDD and BD, marked by a shortened gap between the onset of BD and menarche. 

 

Association between premenstrual dysphoric disorder and perinatal depression: a systematic review.

There seems to be a positive and significant association between PMDD and the development of perinatal depression, particularly postpartum depression.

Women treated at an on-site perinatal mood disorders clinic showed improved EPDS scores when receiving at least two separate care visits.

POSTPARTUM PSYCHIATRIC ILLNESS

The associations between insecure attachment, rooming-in, and postpartum depression: A 2 months’ longitudinal study.

Postpartum depression at two months was more common in women with both anxious and avoidant attachment dimensions, but not with rooming-in conditions. Rooming-in appeared to decrease risk for PPD in women with insecure attachment.

 This paper describes “Together in Mind,” a perinatal and infant mental health day program developed by the Queensland Centre for Perinatal and Infant Mental Health, targeting mothers with moderate to severe mental illness and their infants under 12 months.
