Yoga is frequently recommended as a treatment for menopause-related symptoms, including vasomotor symptoms and sleep disturbance; however, studies regarding its effectiveness have yielded mixed results.
In a recent meta-anlsyis, researchers analyzed data from 13 randomized controlled trials with a total of 1306 participants. Compared with no treatment, yoga reduced total menopausal symptoms, and specifically led to improvements in psychological, somatic, vasomotor, and urogenital symptoms. Â With regard to other forms of exercise, yoga was better for vasomotor symptoms (hot flashes and night sweats).

Dr. Nunacs,
I’m on a 6-month Lupron regime for prostate cancer and I am a 68 year old physical fitness enthusiast.
After my shot in October, I had none of the popular side effects e.g. hot flashes, but when my schedule got hectic and with the onset of the holidays, I didn’t exercise and was beset with the side effects. Today, I did a seven mile brisk walk and I have not had a hot flash all day!
My experience is totally anecdotal, but I believe that there is a correlation between rigorous exercise and hot flash cessation.
