Experimental administration of estradiol and progesterone reduced perimenstrual exacerbation of suicidal ideation, suicide planning, depression, hopelessness, perceived stress, rejection sensitivity, and perceived burdensomeness, particularly in the perimenstrual (natural estradiol and progesterone withdrawal) days.

PSYCHIATRIC ILLNESS DURING PREGNANCY

Association between high levels of comorbid anxiety and depressive symptoms and decreased likelihood of birth without intervention: A longitudinal prospective cohort study.

Persistently high levels of comorbid anxiety and depressive symptoms were associated with a lower likelihood of birth without intervention (odds ratio 0.67, 95% confidence interval 0.47-0.95, P = 0.027) compared with the reference group (persistently low levels of symptoms), after adjusting for confounders.


Threat versus deprivation in mother’s childhood: Differential relations to hair cortisol and psychopathology in pregnancy.

Greater severity of abuse, but not neglect, in childhood was associated with higher maternal depressive symptoms during pregnancy. In contrast, greater severity of neglect, but not abuse, in mothers’ childhood was associated with lower maternal hair cortisol concentration.

Effect of pre-administration of esketamine intraoperatively on postpartum depression after cesarean section: A randomized, double-blinded controlled trial.

Esketamine was administered intravenously at a dose of 0.2 mg/kg after the infant was delivered in group E and equal volume of normal saline was given in group C. The incidence of postpartum depression was significantly lower at 1 week and 6 weeks after surgery in group E (P < .01) compared to group C.

In a group of 277 women with first episode of psychosis after childbirth, total number of obstetric complications and difficulties in delivery were related to more severe psychopathology, and this remained significant after co-varying for age, sex, traumatic experiences, antipsychotic dosage and cannabis use.

MATERNAL MENTAL HEALTH AND CHILD OUTCOMES

Stability of maternal postnatal bonding between 3 and 6 months: Associations with maternal mental health and infant temperament.

At 3 months, higher levels of maternal bonding were predicted by lower levels of anxiety and depression in the mothers and by higher infants’ regulation scores. At 6 months, lower levels of anxiety and depression predicted higher levels of bonding.


MENOPAUSE AND MENTAL HEALTH

Natural vs. surgical postmenopause and psychological symptoms confound the effect of menopause on executive functioning domains of cognitive experience.

BADDS scores were significantly elevated (indicating more difficulties in executive function) among women in the perimenopausal and surgical postmenopausal groups compared with those in the premenopausal group. Likewise, the perimenopausal and surgical postmenopausal groups had the highest proportions of participants who reported difficulty sleeping and clinical levels of anxiety and depression.
