In this population survey, 11.4% of women reporting suicidal ideation postpartum did not meet criteria for probable depression, underscoring the importance of screening beyond depression scales.

Incidence and Risk Factors for Suicide Attempt During Pregnancy and the Postpartum Period.

Several clinical factors—including prenatal suicide attempt visits, assault, ED psychiatric visits, and major psychiatric diagnoses—were associated with a 4–30 fold increased risk of suicide attempt postpartum.
