Mood Disturbance and Associated Symptoms Across the Reproductive Lifecycle of Women

The precise relationship between psychiatric symptoms and female reproductive function remains to be clarified. Investigators continue to examine questions related to premenstrual symptoms of worsening of mood and anxiety, affective instability during pregnancy, as well as mood disturbances during the postpartum period and the transition to menopause. This program will highlight features related to the diagnosis and treatment of affective disorder in women, including the appropriate use of psychotropic drugs across the reproductive lifecycle. Specific attention will be given to affective instability experienced by women during pregnancy and the postpartum period, as well as menopausal-related mood disorders. An interactive panel discussion will also be included which will examine and discuss special considerations which are helpful as treatment is tailored to women with psychiatric disorders as they move across the continuum of the reproductive life cycle.

Fascinating, wish you were closer so I could attend. So much we do not understand in the MH field and particularly psychology about the relationship between emotions and female hormones. Reproductive endocrinology may answer many questions regarding women’s mental health. So glad someone is addressing this important issue and giving women’s mental health the attention it deserves.
