Carrie Swetlik graduated with honors from the University of Chicago in 2012, double majoring in psychology and biology.  A research assistant for Dr. Jean Decety in the Social Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory, her honors thesis evaluated how 9- to 11-year-old children with conduct problems perceive others in situations of harm. After graduation, she worked for two years as a research specialist for Dr. Xiaoxi Zhuang and Dr. Kamal Sharma, studying the development and degeneration of dopamine neurons, and was a certified rape crisis counselor in the state of Illinois.  She began medical school at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine in 2014 and is set to graduate in 2019 with her MD and a Master’s in Nutrition.

Currently on a research year, Carrie has joined the investigative staff at MGH to begin a Registry follow-up study, evaluating the developmental and behavioral outcomes of children exposed prenatally to psychotropic medications.  She plans to remain in academic medicine and pursue a research-oriented career.
